April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. We’ve done a lot of work on this issue, leading the local delivery of the Department of Health’s Be Clear on Cancer initiative, and also creating a special campaign for Cancer Research UK and Derby NHS targeting middle-aged men, and featuring football legend Bobby Moore, who died of the disease in 1993.
The aim of that campaign was to overcome the fear and embarrassment that can stop men seeking medical help. And it worked: 60% of those asked said the campaign encouraged them to check for symptoms and consult their GP.
Now a new report shows that action is more important than ever.
