The campaign, created and delivered by Corporate Culture, targets hard to reach audiences with tailored smoking cessation messages.

Neville was only too aware of the dangers of smoking, as his own father had died of lung cancer and he had seen the pain that he had suffered: "As a former athlete I recognise how important it is to look after your health and I never smoked because I knew it would have ruined my career as well as my health. I am pleased to be able to offer my support to the campaign, which will hopefully encourage many men aged between 18-35 across the City to stop smoking as well as get fit by playing football."

Dr Paula Grey, Director of Public Health at Liverpool PCT, said: "The Treat Yourself campaign aims to make smoking cessation services more accessible, by providing men with the tools to quit on their own terms, as well as emphasising the rewards and treats that become both financially and socially attainable if they kick the habit."

The campaign was well received by the media, being covered on Radio City, Juice FM, City Talk, the Liverpool Echo and Granada TV.

Jennie's presentation explored the background and key factors in encouraging uptake of sport, and included the surprising fact that adults in the UK spend only around 10 minutes each day engaged in sport or outdoor activities.
